Part 1: A Lesson in Concentration

This excerpt from a short history of Chinese writing I am reading (Between Heaven and Earth: A History of Chinese Writing) is something I could learn from for my Qigong practice.  "As a result of their experience, master Chinese calligraphers advocate a high level of mental concentration and, therefore, an environment that is calm and serene to work in.  A high level of concentration implies mastery of the breath, a conscious control of the movements, and the ability to empty oneself of thoughts that might trouble the mind and the energy of the hand.  This represents a discipline that one also finds among masters of the martial arts, masters of Qi Gong, and masters of Taijiquan." (Between Heaven and Earth: A History of Chinese Writing).
